Re: Breastfeeding
I breastfed both of my kids and the experience was great. I can't imagine NOT breastfeeding if God chose to give me another little miracle. I breastfed both my boys until they were right around 2. Only had biting problems once or twice with each of them, none of the mastitis. It was a great and created a very special bond between us. I wouldn't change a thing. I also highly recommend it for anyone that's thinking about it. It's so much better for the baby, and has some benefit for the mom, as well.

Re: Breastfeeding
I know exactly how you feel!! Well I did have mastitis, well kinda I'm not sure if it was mastitis or just super engorgement. When my milk came in they were huge!!!! I had to pump to get the nipple down cuz it was sooo swollen, ran 104 fever and rock hard in both, but they calmed down after just a few days. I couldn't imagine not breastfeeding. I hope better education gets out there to support women who have a hard time and stop spreading the bad info, like stop nursing if your baby is jaundice or crap like that!!

Re: Breastfeeding
I breast fed my twins. I wasn't about to wash all those bottles and worry about mixing formula properly.

Re: Breastfeeding
I breastfed my son but had bad supply issues. He was losing weight drastically and got dehydrated. Even my incredible lactation consultant said it was time to supplement with formula. So, we did.. and he thrived.
I nursed him as much as I could make, and then he got a bottle. It wasn't my preferred way of doing things, but my son is a happy and healthy 2yo now.
I hope it will be easier for me the next go-around. My LC couldn't figure out why I wasn't producing! We tried every trick in the book (except for prescription meds... I didn't want to go that route)

Re: Breastfeeding
I'm sorry it didn't go exactly the way you wanted it to. But you did what you could and thats marvelous!! You gave your son what others don't even try. And hopefully the next time you nurse, it will be easier for you!

Re: Breastfeeding
I was truly victimized by my doctor(s) when I tried to breastfeed. I did for about six weeks - the skin condition made it difficult; my nipples blistered easily if kiddo wasn't positioned *just so*. My LC was a joke, I was warned to stop due to jaundice, I was scared into bottle 'supplementing' by a pediatrician whom I have nothing but foul language for (I fired him when kidlet was 8 weeks old for many, many other reasons) and my cardiologist put me on meds I did not need.
I should have been way more insistent and gotten myself way more educated and found a helpmeet of some kind. If I ever have another baby, I'm going to be insufferable - it'll be my way or the highway. Heh.
