Default Computers

I find many parents are anxious about the screen time, internet, etc. of their kids, personally I am much more lenient about this kind of thing. Computers are becoming much more prominent in our day and age, and will soon be hard to escape. All the other parents say that their children all use things like AIM and facebook. What do you think?

Unmanaged, I am curious how are you more lenient than other parents you know? And why do you think this might be a better way to handle it? Thx

Most parents do not know what their teen children do on the internet. I refuse to be one of those parents

I agree...my daughter is already way into the computer. As a teen there is no way she will be allowed to just do as she pleases, it can be a very sick place

My children are way to young to be alone at my computer. The few times they are alone I turn off all my private messangers and any site that I was on.

When they are older I will have parental controls. I know they are going to see alot from other children's computers so not everything can be stopped so hopefully I can talk with them before they experience. If my son wants to see nudity I will go buy him a Playboy. (that could be a whole 'nother debate)

I am more lenient because I don't manage my childrens internet use (hence unamanged). I don't look at their emails, I let them use their computer in their rooms (some parents I know don't), and I don't have monitoring software on their computer. I think this is better because I believe that my child will be responsible when they go out into the world. Of course all parents do, but I trust them to use the internet wisely when I'm not there. Since I have been doing this for sometime, I think I might have noticed SOMETHING if they were doing something wrong. My kids do a lot of cool things on the internet, which they show me (one of my kids taught himself math on the internet).

Default Re: Computers

I consider my brother to be a computer addict . He is 40. It's pretty sad.
So, when my kids are old enough for computer, I’m sure I’d be super careful (perhaps even a bit paranoid) about it.
