Premature Births
Has anyone else here experienced a preemie birth? My daughter was 4 lb. 13 oz.
Everything was fine but it sure was scary going into labor 5 weeks early!

Re: Premature Births
My second daughter was born at exactly 36 weeks on the day, which is concidered preemie. She weighed 6lbs 10 3/4 oz. Don't let the weight fool you...she was tiny tiny, but she was so swollen it made her heavier. She was down to 6lbs 3 oz when we left the hospital.

Re: Premature Births
Oh honey I'm so sorry you had to wait till you were 42 weeks along...oh that must have been terrible. With my oldest I was at 38 weeks exactly to the day and she was 7lbs 8.5 oz. And believe it or not, but my youngest (which was a preemie) is going to outgrow her big sister. My kids are 21 months apart btw.

Re: Premature Births
No, Bekah was born right on her due date, my eldest 3 step children were late and all weighed under 6lb 9oz - the other two were quite a bit bigger.
I can't imagine how scary it would be to go into labour early - it's scary enough if you're on time/late.

Re: Premature Births
I had two preemies. My daughter was 4 weeks early and "regular" size, no complications. My son was 6 weeks early and weighed 4 lb 12oz. He's okay now (5 years later) but had some real difficulties with his immune system for the first couple of years until he grew into it a little bit. It's scary and frustrating to have a preemie, especially if they're behind in their milestones because YOU know they're right on schedule based on birth but all the other babies are doing X, Y and Z.

Re: Premature Births
yay thats hard for any child, we all complare our kids to others, but I try hard not to. I know NIhcole is more advanced then some kids her age in some things, and behind a little in others. That is just they way they grow.
Yes it sucks having to wait for them to be born when they are late. I was induced though, I was only in labor for 2 hours....maybe. So that part was nice
