Default Newborn Likes Everyone else, except family (even strangers)

I understand that babies hit a recognition stage. My son is seven months old and has a preference for people he sees everyday (MIL, BIL, my wife, and myself). He generally smiles at most strangers and doesn't seem to have problems with them. However, he doesn't like my family, my dad especially.

My wife and I are really confused about this. I thought newborns were supposed to like only a select few and dislike everyone else. Why does my son generally like everyone but just dislike a few select members of my family (even when he can see us)? This russian reversal is really perplexing me.

Some input is appreciated. Thank you.

how does your family approuch the baby? I went though this both of my kids and it was because family was so excited to see them they would rush right up talking to him and get in his face (meaning well) and it would scare him.

Ditto fallon. Tell your family to warm up to him slowly. Also, at 7 mos., your son isn't a "newborn" any longer. LOL!

nope, thats a straight up baby! Heck might even be a toddler in a few months lol

I do agree though that at this age, I doubt he does not like them, he probably is just unsure and they wan tto love and kiss on him.
