Default A Kiss From the Neighbor Girl?

Our little 6 year old neighbor girl came over to play with our 3 year old son, nothing unusual really. We love this little girl, she is smart as whip although her self esteem is lacking because she tends to fib quite a bit. We have called her on it before and asked her to just say "just kidding" after her fibbing to try and break the cycle. She has started doing that here and there and things have gotten better, except for tonight.

Tonight she came over and and they were playing together and went up to our sons room and I started listening after awhile, ya know just to make sure things were cool. What I heard was surprising me. I heard the little girl tell my son "more" then I heard his familiar kissing sound. I listened more intently this time. She said again "more, no, gimme more". Then I yelled up to them to come down stairs. I sat them both down and asked what they were doing and right out of the little girls mouth were lies...she was real quick about it too. I told her that I heard what was going on and that it's not real appropriate at her age or my sons age to be kissing. She denied it for awhile but then admitted it and said it was my son who started it! I was giggling a little because I am amazed at how humans have this built in manipulation feature!

Anyway, the more we talked about it the more sad she got and shame flooded her face and she started to break down about how no one likes her and that she is bad and some obviously unrelated issues. It was so sad.

So my question is how do we go forward from here? We spoke to her and her mom and hopefully things will be cool. My son really digs her and her and so do we! We think her mom is super cool too. Our approach is just to be open and honest, that has proven to make us feel like we did the right things. Like we kept our side of the street clean!

So any cents would on this experience would be great cause we really like our neighbors!

Thanks,
Lisa

I think you did all that you can do really, since her and your son are friends and get along good I would just keep doing what you are doing. Stepping in when you see something inappropriate, and talking about it. Your son would eventually start some of the same behaviours, to the same extreem, who knows, she is just at the age where they adventure outside the norm.

I would agree...but I'm not so sure that I would personally use "just kidding" as the solution for fibbing. I would le them know straight out that lying is not ok and won't be tolerated in your house.
