Default Playing Gone Wrong?

Haha just wondering if any of you were ever playing around with your kids, or just playing, and it went in the complete opposite direction you were going for. For instance, the other day Eli had just gotten up from his nap and I gave him his dad's cell phone to fidget with (we let him play with our phones, he pretends to talk on them) and as he was sitting in my lap pressing the buttons, BF comes into the room and looks at us with a big smile on his face and (COMPLETELY JOKINGLY, NO NEGATIVE TONE IN HIS VOICE AT ALL) said to Eli "Hey what are you doing! You're not allowed to play with my phone!" I mean he was totally kidding, just picking on Eli like he always does. Like dad's do, you know.

But Eli looked down at the phone, looked back up at dad with his eyes all big and sad and his lip all sticking out and then proceeded to let out the most heartbreaking sob you've ever heard. He then threw the phone on the floor and smushed his face into the couch, bawling his head off. BF's jaw dropped and he was like "No no Eli it's okay! Daddy was just kidding! Don't cry, you can play with my phone! I was just kidding!" and so on lol. He felt so bad, and Eli wouldn't take the phone back it was so funny. I think he was just touchy because he had just woken up.

And then there was another time my 2yr old cousin had a dirty diaper and I playfully asked him "Oh, are you stinky?" And he started to cry! And screamed at me "I'M NOT STINKY!!!!!!" Like I had deeply offended him. Totally not my intentions lol.

I remember there were times when my mom pulled jokes on me and I totally freaked out too. Or she was tickling me and I'd get all crabby and yell at her instead of laughing. haha

So I was wondering if you guys had any funny stories to share about your playing or joking with your kids gone wrong?

It's amazing the kind of sarcasm that adults throw around that kids just don't understand. We think we're playing, and to them we're throwing a horrible insult their way.

I know! haha. It's hard to remember that they don't understand sarcasm yet for the most part.

If you tell my four year old little cousin that he's cute, he'll say "No, I'm not cute I'm COOL."

lol

things like this happen all the time to us. DH and his family are big teasers and it took my daughter a long time to figure that out. When it was just her and I, I never teased her at all...lol. It was a bit of rude awaking when she met DH's family. She's totally use to it now, but it took 5 yrs...lol

Got a lot of these.

We are visiting my brother and his family in O K and went to a chuck e cheese type of place with go carts. My brother and nephew each get thier own kart. DS is to small so we ride in a double. (A little background, my brother and I are very competative)

DS and I are ripping up the course Brrrrrr, drifting into the corners Brrrrrr screeech, getting lift over the hills. I have already lapped my brother and am preparing to pass my nephew a second time Brrrrrrr screeeeeeech. I'm grinning from ear to ear lovin this. I look over and DS is crying his eyes out grabbing the handrails like theres no tommorow screamming Daddy stop, pleeeeaase slow dooooown. With tears streaming off his pale white face.

The whole time the engine was so loud I could'nt hear him and I was so focused on kicking my bro's and nephew arss that I never looked over at him.

I felt terrible He was still shaking when we returned to the rest of the family.

Bad Daddy, Bad Daddy, Bad Daddy..... This thread makes me feel bad again.

LOL aww!!! That's so sad-funny!! haha. It was only an accident you didn't know he was scared. It's so funny how you can fudge something up with kids as simple as trying to have fun. xD

Oh yes. This has happened many, many times!

We were sitting around the table having dinner. My daughter Alexis's friends mom went on a field trip with her class. She called to tell me that Alexis and another little boy were together the whole trip! Holding hands and having pretend weddings. She was 6 at the time. Me and my hubby thought it was so cute. Her friends mom called us to tell us it was cute. But when we brought it up at dinner, it turned ugly. I said to Alexis, 'Oh Lexi, Nicole's mommy told us that you have a boyfriend now named T.J. And she told that you had a pretend wedding. Why weren't we invited?' She shot a really sour look to me! She said, 'Because I didn't want you there!' Her big brother started laughing. Her sister said, 'Oooh, Lex, how's the boyfriend today? Why didn't you tell me!' And she actually like screamed, 'BAILEY! I DON'T HAVE TO TELL YOU GUYS EVERYTHING OR INVITE YOU EVERYWHERE!? YOU ARE ALL SO EMBARRASSING!!!'

All I have to do is catch Cole talking to a girl. Wait a couple of hours and say. Hey that girl you were talking to was cute. DaaaAAAaad why do you have to say that I was just talking. I dont like here or anything. She's a girl(my favorite line). Me ( pause) I'm just saying she's cute. DaaAAaaAAAAd stop it.
