potty training ?s
Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and I just have a couple quick qeustions about potty training that me and my wife are disagreeing on. She seems to believe that waking up my son in the middle of the night (midnightish) everynight to make him go pee is a good idea, I disagree with this because I think it makes a habit of peeing at night when he is supposed to be sleeping. So far this has not worked, he still pees the bed every single day, and I am kind of getting tired of having to wake up every night to clean pee, I had hoped this would stop for the most part (I wouldn't mind getting up just 2-3 times a week) at this point. I really don't have any ideas other than stick him back in some training diapers at night and tell him to try and not pee when hes sleeping and just have him pee right before bed and when he wakes up. Thanks for any help you guys may have.

Re: potty training ?s
I had to keep my son in training pants until he was a little over four because of the same problem. I will have to say though that I got him out of them by a combination of limiting what he drank after a certain time, having him go to the bathroom before bed and I did wake him up at about 11:00 before I went to bed and had him go to the bathroom. I started this though after I put him back in the training pants until he was a little older.

Re: potty training ?s
if he's going in bed at night it is probably a good idea to put him in the training pants at night. A lot of kids will do really well during the day and have a problem at bed time. their bodies may not be quite ready yet. I agree that you should probably cut off the liquids a while before bed unless it's necessary, and make sure he try to go before bed

Re: potty training ?s
Getting him up in the night just to pee isn't the greatest of ideas, apart from anything else, it will mess with his sleep pattern. If he is doing great in the day, then just put training pants on him at night, and like the other posters said, limit his liquids after a certain time.

Re: potty training ?s
I agree, at this age it probably isn't a great idea to wake him up at night to go

Re: potty training ?s
Potty training is totally different then night training. Here is a great link all about it
http://www.kidsgrowth.com/resources/...ail.cfm?id=225
it even says that:
* Some parents try to control the problem by restricting the amount the child drinks in the evening. Another approach is to wake the child at night to urinate before the parents go to sleep. Unfortunately, these methods are rarely successful.
It does have great tips though. I say great, I have never had to use them as my daughter is still very young, but they seem like great ideas to me.

Re: potty training ?s
I did read that limiting the amount the amount they drink before bed isn't really a training method, but for us it helped (and still helps) from having to many night time bathroom trips. we still give her drinks just not a full glass or anything other then water. They say though that bed wetting isn't always related to the amount a child drinks. They are all different, but your son is still young and probably just needs more time

Re: potty training ?s
yeah, i mean if you load your kid up on water or juice then surely they will have to go pee. I would at least, but when they are this young its usually just their muscles in the bladder are not strong enough

Re: potty training ?s
Thx for the replies everybody, I really appreciate it. I will try this no liquids after a certain time thing, if that doesn't help, I think I will have to shell out some dough for training pants...we shall see. I have yet to read that article, we'll see what it says.thx again everybody!
