Default Teens and Birth Control

I saw this topic on another forum, and it seemed to get a good response.

Do you think that teens should have access to birth control (pills, condoms etc etc) with/without parental notification or consent?

Wow...opening a big can of worms here.

IMO , teens should have access to those things, but if they're under 18 then parental consent should be required.

I guess the way I see it...if the child is under 18, then it's my right and responsibility to raise the child the way I see fit. If they have the ability to just go to the doctor, school, or wherever to get BC then it circumvents my ability to raise my child the way I want.

well, the way i see is that as of this moment, kids can go buy condoms, get birth controll pills at their leisure anyway. I mean it may be different if they went to their family doc, but the contraceptives are there for them to get.
If kids are under 18 they are your responsibility, however, it isn't the establishments that are preventing you from raising your kids, its the kids themselves taking it upon themselves to do this without our knowledge.

I'm torn on this but I plan being open about BC and getting her on it well before she starts having sex. I guess I see why they should be able to get it w/o consent though, so many parents don't have that talk with their kid and than they end up preggo at a very young age. I guess my take is give them condoms but not pills. I don't want my child taking something without talking to her doc and me first

Agreed, but that doesn't mean that I should give the establishments the ability to further impede my parenting rights. It's just giving someone other than me the right to parent my child.

would you feel differently if your child's mother took her to get on the pill without your knowledge? (not arguing just wondering )

I would be upset, but less so than if she just got it from the school nurse without my knowledge. I truse my ex-wife enough to know that she would have D's best interests in mind and do due dilligence with things like allergic reactions, etc....

see and this is exactly why I don't want some school nurse or health dept. giving my child a pill of any kind. They don't know her history...so I totally agree with you.
