Question misconception

with all the news channels talking about the recalls out of China from pet food to children's products, a problem has reared it's head in our house. My SIL is from China and before my daughter never really thought much of it. She has known she was a little different and has been learning a lot about her culture. At last night my daughter heard yet another report about the dangers of children's toys out of China, she has been very interested in this as she is very afraid that her toys will have to go. Out of no where she gets a very serious look on her face and her eyes teared up. She look at me very sad and says, "I know what else is from China." At first we didn't make the connection so I said, "What honey?" She begins to cry and says, "Aunt Ling". Now I'm afraid of what she might say the next time she sees my SIL. I really don't want any hurt feelings. I tried to explain to my dd that Aunt Ling has nothing to do this problem and that all things out of China aren't bad but I'm not sure she understands. Any ideas on how to help help a 4 yr old understand such a thing?

I think just keep reassuring her that only things are bad and not everything. People like her Aunt did not cause it. Its kind of like the war. Not all Muslims are bad people, just some of them. We hear about the bad ones because they are causing so much trouble. I would even tell your SIL that your daughter has these thoughts and have her explain it to your daughter. I am assumng that your SIL and daughter are close.

I think that might be the right way to go. My SIL hasn't been in the family long but her and my daughter have a lot of fun together. Maybe if I speak to her and have her talk to my dd it will help. Her English is pretty good so maybe if we make it a joint effort we can help her understand

The fact that she teared up indicates she loves her Aunt Ling very much. How very sweet. I hope you complimented your little one on her caring so very much for this new family member.

for sure...but in talking to her a little more today it's starting to become a little clearer, I'm pretty sure the whole prblem is that she's worried her aunt is going to be recalled
