Hello everyone I would like to introduce myself. I am the founder of *babyfirstaid.ca this site was put together for parents out there in need of information about baby first aid, including choking and CPR. On there site there is FREE information on a variety of different topics. For example what to do if you drop your baby, fevers and sleeping tips.
I fell down the stairs with my little one when he was 2 months old. He went flying out of my arms, I was fortunate to know what to do and look for. Feel free to ask me questions or visit my site for useful tips and guides.
It was scary! My wife was in the driveway and heard it from outside. Kyle was screaming...first good sign. What you want to look for is any obvious signs of head trauma. IE: big bumps, blood.
If there is nothing noticable then see if you can look into your bab's eyes. If they are equal and reactive=good sign.
Things to lookout for. If you baby start to vomit..go to hospital, this is a sign of head trauma.
DO NOT FEED YOUR BABY! Feeding may put your baby to sleep and you will not be able to see the signs of head trauma.
The best thing to do is comfort and observe. Expect crying for at least 15 minutes.
Scary but everyone should know what to to. When they start to crawl/walk they will tumble down the stairs at some point...same rules apply if they do!

I wish I had read this a couple of days ago. My 18 mo. daughter choked on a Gerber Graduates Cheese Ravioli. It was the morst terrorifying thing I have ever experienced. I had NO idea what to do. Thank God my Mother was with me and called 911 and he told me exactly what to do. That information saved my baby's life. I've already signed up for an Adult, Child, and Infant CPR and First Aid class.
If anyone else has ever been through this how do you get over the anxiety from it? I mean I can't go more than a few minutes without checking on her to make sure she's ok. I chop all her food into mush. Because I'm so paranoid she'll choke again. I haven't let her feed herself since the incident. And I find myself just watching her because I'm afraid she'll stop breathing or something. I mean I know things happen with kids, but I'm just so anxious now that has happened I just want to know how to get over the anxiety and the constant worrying.

Re: Baby First Aid..A MUST Read!!!
NataliesMommy10 - We totally appreciate you posting, but we try not to bump any threads with a last post date any older than 30 days. This thread is a good 2 and a half years old haha... Don't worry, we've all done it by accident. Just try to keep an eye on it. Check out our guidelines located in the introductions forum so you know how we run.
