Default Fear of the playground at 4?

My older son is timid at the playground. He holds on to the monkey bars the first 10 to 20 mins when walking through the set. Eventually he'll walk through the set, but will still hold on to the bar when going down a step. I know, he'll break this mold eventually; is there anything I can do to help (I encourage him, go through it with him, try to distract him, and of course, will give him frequent access to the playground).

My young son (not yet two), flies through the same playground. I pretty sure he has not figured out the value of fear.

I would imagine that he'll break out of it eventually. Keep encouraging him. Are there any kids around his age he can hang out with? Maybe seeing his friends do that stuff will help him.
