Default Daughtes body type

I have noticed gradually over the years, since having a kid has put me in situations where I am around many children, that most little girls have that gangly, stick-thin, awkward, almost unproportioned body type. I think it is by far the most common, at least from what i have observed, so what really confuses me is my own daughters body type. She is by no means fat, in fact shes about ten pounds underweight and about average height for her age and shes only seven and a half. The thing is, she has really really thick thighs and a big butt. I don't get it. When shes playing with her schoolmates, girls her own age to be exact, she just looks well...curvier for lack of a better word. She definitely isn't pubertal yet and as far as I know she hasn't started having her period, so I don't understand why her butt and thighs are so huge. Her mother is of german ancestry, and I've been told that may have something to do with it (why that would be, I have no clue) I'm castilian and castilians are not known for being that sort of volumptuos. Are germans?

This summer one of her friends had a pool party, and my daughters swimming suit wasn't any smaller than any other girls there, but she looked undeniably more 'provocative' (again for lack of a better word) then her peers. In fact, one of the mothers there leaned over to me at one point and said 'you're going to have your hands full with that one pretty soon!' which I actually thought was sort of an inapropriate thing to say to me considering shes not even eight yet.

I don't want to come off as sounding preoccupied with her physical appearence because I will of course love my daughter know matter how thick or thin she is, I was just hoping some mothers (or fathers even) might be able to provide some sort of explanation for this. thanks!

Lol I think some kids are just shaped different. You're right about most girls having that stick-thin gangly look to them for a long time, but some girls aren't exactly the same. What does her mother look like? Does she take after her in that area? Have you seen pictures of her mom at that age? It could be just a genetic thing. I wouldn't worry about it at all unless she seems unhealthy in any way, or your doctor suggests that she is overweight. Its just like how a lot of girls have dainty little feet, but randomly a couple of girls will have kinda big feet. Not as noticeable, but along the same lines. If anything, if you are uncomfortable, you could encourage her to wear little swim shorts with her suit. If you think that she's unhealthy, you could help by changing her diet. Some fatty foods specifically target the buns and thighs I guess haha. But I would bet any money that its genetic somehow. It might be awkward right now, but it will look good on her someday.

And yeah. I do think that what that mother said was totally, and uncomfortably, inappropriate. lol Especially if she was targetting that fact, and not you know... her big, beautiful eyes and soft, pretty hair. Or something. You don't point out someone else's 7 year old having a shapely bottom. Awkward.

But the only explanations really are that its either genetic somehow, or something having to do with her diet. I think.

thank you for responding to my thread Xero. Its so nice to meet you for the first time ever on this board

I guess it is probably genetic, but I just don't understand why I don't see it more often. I see girls her age with a similar body type every great once in a while, but I live in Wisconsin, and midwest girls are not particularly dainty.
The genetic stock around here is mostly german and swedish, and women in this part of the country generally have thick thighs and big butts (farmgirls if you will) Skinny Minnies are to be found, but are in the deep deep minority. SO if this body type is so common in grown women around here, and these women are having daughters, then why don't their daughters take on a similar body type during childhood like my daughter has? THATS what I wanna know.

Yes, her mother also has very thick thighs and a large butt (as do her sisters) though I've never seen a picture of her at my daughters age. I definitely don't think its a health thing. like I said in the first post, my daughther is underweight (which is no surprise since I'm six feet and have never broken 123 lbs!) and both of her parents are health-nuts who pretty much only buy organic type foods, she rarely ever gets sweets.
She's a very healthy and active and athletic girl, and I tend to believethat having thick thighs and a big butt are signs of good health (we're talking thick here, not obese or fatty) but when its on GROWN women.
In a way I almost feel that my daughter has kind of been robbed ofgetting to have that gangly little girl body. Its like she got pole-vaulted right into woman hood or something.

I don't think it usually presents itself until sometime shortly after marriage.

LOL ECD!! Oh wow that's hilarious. At first I was like "sometime after marriage......??? OHHHH!" haha.

Yeah, I think you're right, that is when it happens. Right around the time men start wearing a large shirt instead of a medium, and 34 pants instead of 32's. lol

Alastair, I guess that is a good question. Its possible she just skipped the gangly stage, and fell into her curviness a little earlier than most girls. Nothing bad, just different. I say if it doesn't bother her, then its ok.

Bek is a skinny minnie, I was aswell when I was a kid. Actually, I was the full package, scrawny, long arms, scragly red hair, big feet. I looked like a cartoon.

Other girls in her kindergarten dont have the same build as her, theres one who has pretty big hips for a kindergartener, her best friend is about the height of a 7yr old.

Everyone's shaped differently. I dont think there would be anything wron with your little girl.

All kids are different.

In fact, when I was 7 I was already a head taller, and significantly wider than all my classmates. When I was 7 I was a second grader and I looked like a 5-6 grader! I was bigger than most (i was called normal) but nonetheless I didn't feel normal nor was I treated like I was normal. So, if anything, you're daughter is developing normally and her classmates will just have to catch up to her! If you're truly concerned take her to the doctor and get a medical opinion.

Best of luck!

forget the doctor! A tailor would be more appropriate She outgrows pants like crazy. The length is never the problem. She'll fit into a pair of jeans fine and then a month later she'll be complaining that they are too tight around the thighs and it will take her five minutes just to pull them up all the way. Is there a particular style that is made for this kind of body type? At least then I would know what to look for and I wouldn't spend a fortune on pants year.

lol! You could try flares. Or the stretchy ones. Or buy them a little big along with a belt. Unfortunately, they don't make too much in the little girls' section that is made to fit womanly curves.
