Ok here's the dealio

I'm not expecting professional advise. Just any new ideas that might be helpful.

For those who dont know my DD is 6 autistic and is unable to comunicat many things. I.E. when something hurt. her concerns. only very basic comunication I.E. Juice, I go to Nana's ect.

She does not like to poop so she ends up constapated. We use a MD recomended Gummi bear laxitaive daily. But she simply does not want to go So it normally get to the supposatory stage.

When she does go its so compacted that it causes minor tearing.

To heal the tearing you guessed it more supposatory's. So she's getting a lot of these.

The Gummi's seem to be working good she just wont go (skid marks in her underwear and have to wipe her each time she goes pee).

I think she is tramatized because she thinks most times she goes into the bathroom we are going to jam something in her butt. So she is just playing 'wack a mole" all day long. Which of course puts her in a bad mood.

Its a very bad place we are in right now because well its just a visious cycle. And we cant just sit her down to explain things to her.

Well Any advise including creative advise is welcome. We are going to her first DAN doctor appointment at the end of the month. maybe they can help. But me and DW are at our wit's end trying to figure this puzzle out.

Thanks
Bryan

Hey bssage! I missed you!

Poor Chloe! I can see how difficult that would be, suppositories are seriously no fun lol. I wish I had some good advice for you, but I really hope things get better and I wanted to say hi anyway. You could try looking up all the foods that tend to naturally give people softer stool, like what is it prunes?? And stuff like that. And maybe try to make stuff like that a regular part of her diet. Could keep things flowing smoothly. Good luck!

nice seeing youall also. I think her poop is soft enough she just doesnt want to go. Then it becomes compacted and the cycle begins again.

ya'll have tried the reward system right?
maybe, is there a way to get her distracted doing something like coloring in a book or reading in one of her books while she goes?

I'll give it a shot. She really doesnt get excited about stuff or rewards. But it stands to reason that if she understands when we get the jar of (you know what) out she tries in order to avoid them. She just doesnt really like anything that much.

well my daughter was always constipated, it all started at about 9 months old, i tried everything. The dr. finally recommended mirolax i put a tablespoon in her milk every day and have for the past 3 years. I also found pedi lax it is a melt away strip it is so much better than sticking something in there bottom..i did that so many times but as my daughter got older i felt like i was violating her she would run around the house holding her hand to her bottom and scream no no dont stick the but, it was horrible. the pedilax melt away strips work great. Also when i go to the store i try to by only high fiber foods.

Thats one of those things that isn't funny, but it is. DD does the same thing.

DD's problem isnt that her stool isn't loose enough. Its just that she doesnt want to go and wont. The suppositories force the issue

DS2 went throught that phase at around the 1 to 2 timeframe, so i can see what you mean about the vicous cycle. We were able to break the cycle before it becasme a major haibitual problem.

I agree with 16th. If you can make poop time fun, I'd say that's your best shot along with the laxative.

My nephew was speech delayed and a little slower at learning. We had a similar experience. We found something he really liked.. chocolate kisses, and kept them in the bathroom in the cabinet. Daddy went with him, and Logan went with Dad to the bathroom. If Dad used it, he got a kiss.. and Everyone in the house would sing and dance the Daddy pooped or pee'd song! Sounds crazy.. but kids love the craziness..and the Candy. The first time Logan "earned" his own treat and song... it was on. If she is associating something bad with Pooping... help her learn something great will happen~ Good luck
