popping a kid
this afternoon after emmy got off the bus we was walking around to our apt. we passed an old fart going into one of the other apartments. the old man weighs about 250+++ and 6'5+. well then, he smarts off said he'd pop a kid for doing that. what made him mouth off is chloe blowing a rasberry at him
i lost it. . imagine a 98lb. (and loosing more weight by the day it seems) woman getting after someone that big. not good. run my mouth a bit and told the old bast*** that ya just don't say that sort of thing to a kid or any one. and that "i'd pop you Boy!!!!!!"
"boy" kept coming outta my mouth with nasty snears and attitude. disturbed some of the neighbors. basically said my peace and kept on going about my business without giving him a chance to say anything.
made a complaint to the apt. manager and hubby is saying his peace about it to that hefer now. she probably wont do anything. i got nothing but an "i aint never seen anyone like that around here." she's gotta be lying. the old man and his "family" or who ever the heck they are go to that same apt. he was heading into all the time.
a little of chloe's personality is that chloe ain't never liked strangers. so she shows attitude Every time one gets in her path no matter how much we preach to her to use her manners and don't talk to or have anything to do with strangers. she's different with people she recognizes even ones that she sees from a distance like the mainenance men or neighbors a few doors down. those folks she tries to talk to like they're long lost friends of hers.
correct me if i'm wrong please but
to me ya just don't tell a stranger you'd pop someone's kid just because the kid blew a raspberry at ya.

Re: popping a kid
Just IMHO so dont get all fired up at me.
Pop sounds innocent enough. If he would have chosen a different word I might be inclined to agree. She kinda did draw first blood.
All said though, my mother would have done the same thing you did. She stuck up for me no matter what. I would get a ear full when we got home. But like yourself she would not back down.
Just IMHO

Re: popping a kid
I doubt that I would have confronted the man but I can't really blame you.

Re: popping a kid
I don't blame you for feeling that way. If it had been me I think I would have told him to shut his mouth and stop being an a-hole or something along those lines and moved on with my life. Kids do silly things, its a natural part of life. And you don't say things like that to a perfect stranger (such as a reference to hitting their kid haha, not cool). So I think he deserved a nasty comment in return, but I would have left it at that. I mean, it was pretty rude of Chloe to make rude noises at a random guy (Raspberry - aka - sticking out her tongue and spitting). But like I said, kids do those things. I couldn't take it to the manager or send my bf after him or anything lol but that's just me, I hate drama. I'd rather get my piece in and then have it over with. Sorry you had a bad day 16th.

Re: popping a kid
I'm with you, 16th ave. That guy was totally out of line. I would probably have told him if he wants to "pop" my kid, he'd have to "pop" me first. As in, "let's see how brave you are now"...
Naturally she would get a piece of my mind about being rude to strangers, but later, in private - not in front of said stranger. When others are present, I'd always take my kid's side.

Re: popping a kid
If any of my children had done something like blow a raspberry to another person, they would be told off before anyone else even have time to open their mouths. I definitely wouldn't be rude to someone else in or swear at them in front of my children either, to me that just reinforces that when you are rude to someone, you are in the right.

Re: popping a kid
she never said she was swearing in front of the child...but no matter how rude a 5 yr old might have been nobody has the right to threaten another person's child with a "pop".

Re: popping a kid
yeah, it wouldn't have bothered me so much if i hadn't felt like the old guy was threatening to "pop" my kid. he could have said something along the lines of "in my day, i'd have paddled the kid." i still would have said something but it wouldn't have gotten so nasty so quick. there would have been the cursing but i wouldn't have told the old man "i'd pop you boy!."
we do preach and practice manners and respect. very important to us. but we also expect it from others. any time the kids are being disrepectful or not showing their manners we say something to them and many times they get put in time out or get some other punishment depending on how serious the offense is. the girls don't get away with that stuff. chloe did get a lecture and time out last night.
ya'll don't know much about the apts we live in. well, ya know we think they're a rat hole from hades. the apt. manager has a habit of renting to people selling drugs and stuff. she doesn't check references like she is supposed to. we've had neighbors who had as many visitors as a cat house in las vegas. these apts. are considered the slum of our town. the cops know all about this place and have to come out here as often as they have to go any where else in the whole town. we have to keep about 5 locks on our door. you don't leave anything sitting outside in front of the one window you have unless it wont hurt to loose it. someone will eventually come along and take it if you do. the kids are never allowed to step outside for any reason without us because of all the traffic up and down the sidewalk. lots of weird strange folks in these apts. from the mentally ill to the drug addict to the dope dealer. a lot of the people coming and going ain't here to visit friends or family. they come and go just to pick up their next "high" or the party going on. people move in and out of these apts so often its hard to keep track of who lives here and who doesn't. not a safe place at all. so yeah, a complaint to the manager had to be made.
as far as the swearing goes---well that's only a matter of opinion. most swear words are just synonyms. i see nothing wrong with it though i do try to keep it down around others because they do have a different view from mine. one that they have a right to.

Re: popping a kid
Ya know, I want to sit here and say you should've handled it "this way" or "that way", but the fact is that if I was faced with the same situation I would've probably punched the dude in the nose.
