Re: military mom charged for not deploying
I understand why she refused getting deployed, as I would've probably done the same thing in the same circumstances. My only thing is the timing... was she in the military prior to getting pregnant or after? She had to know that she would possibly be facing a situation like this.

Re: military mom charged for not deploying
I would questioned how it was handled by the mom. They have the sympathetic photo. The news article. Then it goes on to say this does happen and usually it doesn't go to this extreme.
I wonder of she did not do her "due diligence" and just expected a pass because she is special. Another one of the charges is "insubordination" That might be very telling about what went on here.

Re: military mom charged for not deploying
There's a lot of layers to this onion...
I'm guessing the insubordination charge is merely the fact that she was ordered to deploy and didn't follow that order.
It's interesting that they have a plan for this. I gotta think that they have some process for her to have filed for a delay to make other arrangements. It's one thing to have a plan, but I'm sure others have been in the situation where their plans have not worked.
Then there's the whole social side of this. It seems she's used to kind of just doing what she wants - She got pregnant, obviously by someone she can't trust and who apparently has no trustworthy family, signed up for the army and now suddenly her mom can't do it? Smells a little fishy to me. I'm guessing that the suitablility of an available guardian is something this investigator will look into.
I do agree that if her only two choices were to deploy and turn her child over to the child welfare system or refuse to deploy, then as a mother she did the right thing. But I also don't blame the Army for what they are doing, they are consistenly applying their policies. The only part of that that seems pretty bass ackwards is filing the charges and THEN investigating to see if they are warranted. Seems like it may have made more sense to investigate first and then charge, but I don't know, maybe there are statutes of limitations and they had to file charges or lose the ability to charge.

Re: military mom charged for not deploying
While I feel for her and her situation, she has a duty and she needed to follow though. I also suspect that the mother/grandmother is going along with her DD because the DD had a change of heart and now are trying to back peddle. I could be completely wrong but I am realy getting that feeling...I mean she runs a day care and she can't find room in her house for her grandbaby.....

I believe it said that she started in the military in 2007.......so she must have gotten pregnant while in the military. talk about not using protection/pills.....It's called a condom! ....ah hem...anywho.
I think she should have had a back-up plan. Knowing how many kids her mom looks after on a daily basis, she could have found another person she trusts and who would have been willing to look after her son.
It sounds to me that she might not have contacted her superior(s) to notify them that she didnt have a caregiver for her son....and if thats the case, then I think its her own fault...BUT I can see where she came from with not deploying considering the cirumstances.
I also agree that maybe they shoulda done an investigation BEFORE charging her....you would think they would, but I am unfamiliar with the US Military.
I hope for her and her sons sake she doesnt get jailed, cuz then where would her son go? :S

Re: military mom charged for not deploying
haha! what :P its true!! lol. I'm the first to admit that protection prevents pregnancy and when its not used (and sometimes when it is) babies are made! :P That's how my daughter was conceived.....damn latex allergies (on DH's behalf) and birth control pills would have killed me blah! (cannot have excess estrogen) Anywho off topic....
