Default Need a word for step-mom

My 6 and a half year old step-daughter has started calling me "mama." It's very flattering and adorable, but I'd rather she didn't. She has a very good mom who loves her and I just don't think it's right. But I have a feeling my new step daughter will be hurt or embarrassed if I tell her not to call me this. I'm trying to think of other things she could call me instead. I've been looking for words for step-mother in other languages, but can't find anything that rolls of the tongue (or is easy for a 6 year old to say). Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you

Fam is mother in Cymraeg, step-mother would be llysfamau pronounced cleesefamow, you could add the literal word for step, which would be cam-fam.
Step-daughter would be llysferch, pronounced clis-fersh.

You could have her make it more specific, like she could call you "Mama K" or "Mama Kris" or "Mama Kristina"? That is of course assuming your name is Kristina like your username. My mom is a foster parent and if she knew the kids she was fostering were going to go back to their parents, she would have the little ones call her "Mommy Tina" or something like that (my mom's name is Tina). I don't think that's so bad, if you just add something specific to it you're not doing anything wrong. If you have a good relationship with her mother, you could even ask her if its okay and everything could be cleared up.

wow, them welsh, it's like they got a different word for everything....

(and now for Xero's benefit: You see it's a joke because it's a different language, the DO have a different word for everything, so that makes it funny, mmK?)

and in all seriousness, I like Xeros suggestions, something like that would be both natural and clear. Have you talked with mom about how you feel. It might be good if you can tell her, or get the message to her, that you're not encouragining this, and that it does make you uncomfortable and you're trying to figure out something different. Beware, she may have other words if she's choosing a name for you.

Alma , Pronounced AL-mah (Latin, Italian, hebrew and arabic origin) Means nourishing, kind, soul, woman. Also means fostering Mother. Which I like.

My only suggestion is instead of telling your step daughter that you want her not to call you Mom, (that might hurt her feelings) I would have Dad start calling you that to her and generally using it around her all the time. Tell her why you like it perhaps. She'll start calling you that out of habit. Alma is a beautiful meaning name, that you can be proud of, without stepping on her Mom's toes.
