Default Need tips on feed medicine to a sick child

My 2 years old have a cold/fever and refuse to take any medicine. We tried to force it, but she just throws up and spit it out. We have also try to mix it with soda, but she didn't finish the soda, which she usually does if there was no medicine mixing with it.

Any tips on this would be great appreciated.

I dont think you will find a "one size fits all" answer

We have a lot of trouble with dd (dear daughter) The things which have been successful for us.

The oral syringe. Aim it into the back corner (cheek) support her chin with a cupped hand. have a towel or rag ready. take your time getting the syringe in but when its there squirt fast. I have found with liquids it also helps if they are cool. We keep her liquids in the fridge or freezer when possible. Its also good to give the syringe a couple of dry runs with water in the sink so it wont stick and you will know how much pressure to apply.

We also use applesauce. It easy to control the mix mask's the taste pretty well and after a little learning curve she know the faster she eats it the faster she is done. This is for crushing pills and such.

It a good idea to have more than enough. Alot of stuff is wasted on the chin or otherwise just not consumed. So rather than having to stop get more and start again. I think its best to just have more handy.

There's more than one way to "skin this cat" Those are just what works for us.

We've used applesauce before also and it seems to work. Also hiding it in yogurt.

They need to come up with some way of incorporating medicine into chicken nuggets or fish sticks because thats all my kids eat

I thought I may want to take anouther look at your first post. I'm kinda glad i did.

How exactly were you trying to "force" her?

What kind of soda does your 2 yr old usually drink??

there's also melt aways. two great flavors the grape (tastes more like grape soda) or fruit punch. stay away from anything cherry. its god AWFUL.

when you add the medicine to something don't put it to much more than a couple tablespoons of juice. that causes waste unless you're pretty certain they are going to eat or drink the whole serving. never tell the child that you added the med(s). if they ask just say its the bug that's making stuff taste so funny.
soda is ok. but if you should really try to avoid that one.
soda=sugar=a sick but hyper child that isn't getting the very much needed rest.

tylenol melt aways is a great one---children ages 2 to 11 and is available in a range of flavors including Cherry Blast, Grape Splash, Bubble Gum Yum, Very Berry Strawberry, and Dye-Free Cherry....
Tylenol.com — Children's Tylenol
other brands are available too.

ONLY as a last resort--you can always make it plain that a trip to the doctor will be made if necessary. it sounds harsh but it works to "scare" the sweet babies into doing what's best for themselves.

also don't forget the cool rags on the forehead and luke warm dips to help with fevers and try ice chips (if kiddo can handle them or crushed ice like a slushy).
if you end up at the hospital b/c of a high fever, they'll be doing this anyway. its what they will tell you to do at home also.

good luck to ya. hope the little one gets to feeling better soon.

Thank you all for the tips.

Man, when I took her to the doc last week, it was aweful. As soon as she stepped into the office, she was leaving by herself. She was crying the whole time, and the doc didn't even do anything beside checking her ears and throats.

@bssage
I gave them ice tea. I know sugar is bad, but sometimes it is the only thing that works.
