    Update/Why I Haven't Been Around...

Oh my gosh, that is absolutely my worst nightmare. I hope Billy's doing better now. My Landon (also Type 1) has had a few rough times, but nothing even close to that. Anyway, I thought I'd post and let you know I'd remember you. Your family is tough to forget! :p

    Frightening News...

Fo6, I haven't been on here lately, so I'm sorry for the late response. My son Landon was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was 4. He's now 11 and he's doing great. He is extremely active, and uses the Animas Ping insulin pump. Instead of glucose tabs, Landon usually uses skittles...

    Naming...

My daughter also tries to go by her full name: Kathleen, but people are always calling her Katie and Kathy. She gets pretty annoyed, but just tells them "My name's Kathleen, and I go by Kathleen." That usually works. My youngest, on the other hand, is Nathan, and everyone calls him Nate or...

Anyone else have a highschool graduate this year?...

My son Ryan just finished his senior year of high school last week! He still has no idea what he wants to do next year, but he was accepted to a couple different schools, and he's considering taking the year off. He wants to spend some time traveling and possibly living in Italy for a year...

    Happy hellos from California...

Hi, I'm also in the LA area!

    Hello from California...

Welcome to the board Sammi! I'm also from California (the LA area) and I have 5 kids. My oldest is almost 18 and my youngest is 3.

    BEST Sunblock...

We live in CA, and I have a couple pale kids, so we've tried all the sunscreens. The best one that we've found is Ombrelle. I usually us spf 30, but it comes in 15, 45 and 60 as well. It's not greasy at all and doesn't smell.

    T.V. at Dinner...

We're about half and half. Half the time, the whole family is home, so we turn off the TVs, sit down in the kitchen together and have a family meal. The other days are when not everyone's home, the kids have sports and we're all eating at different times. Those days, the kids usually eat in...

    skipping grades...

I went through the exact same thing last year with my daughter. She was in first grade, reading at about a fifth grade level and bored out of her mind. Her teacher suggested that we skip her to third grade. She was easily mature enough to skip into third grade, but we worried about how she would...

How to fail school tests with dignity...

I think these are really funny and so do my teenagers! I just hope they don't try them out.

    Baby beauty pagents...

I don't think that any child should do pageants, modeling or acting, unless they are the ones who want to do it. I don't see anything wrong with your daughter doing print modeling, if it's what she wants to do. The money is not worth putting your daughter through something she didn't want in...

    Playdates?...

I've never done a weekly playdate, or anything like that. But, if I know someone or meet someone with a kid about my child's age, I ask if they would want to come over. The kids play, and I have a coffee with the mom.

Mommys Vs Daddys(who is the better driver?)...

I would have to say that he's the better driver. I'm not a bad driver, but Adam is just a really good driver. He can drive and park any vehicle (I can't park the pick-up), he knows his way everywhere and he speeds all the time, but never gets a ticket.

how you were raised/how much does it influenced your parenting...

I would have to say that my parents, and my in-laws definitely influenced the way we raise our children. My parents were fairly strict when I was a kid. My mom was a teacher at my middle school, and my dad was a cop, so we didn't have much room to get into trouble. They let up a bit when I was...

Do they get worse one by one?...

That theory doesn't work for my kids. So far, my oldest and my youngest have been the easiest. My oldest was a great baby, and we're really close, more like friends, because I've never had to seriously punish him. My youngest is a lot like him. He's 3, but he's really laid-back and has never...
