Amen to that! What do you mean "'over weight' is not necessarily healthy"? I don't think anyone is saying skinny is healthy. There are health risks to not carrying any body fat. I think the popular notion that there is an objective healthy and not healthy is something to be steered clear of...

Yup, yup, yup. Thanks for doing it!

Agreed. I should have been more specific. Obesity CAN BE a FACTOR (not a cause) in the development of type TWO diabetes. My bad. Sorry.

How would a blood test demonstrate appropriate growth in a baby? And who would want to subject a baby to a needle when you can just weight him or her? But anyway I agree. Do as I say, not as a I do makes no sense.

Alas our shape and our health are inextricably linked. Over-weight-ness (I love making up words) is a health risk, regardless of what fat acceptors would have us believe. The vast majority of us aren't ever be supermodels, and we can probably thank our lucky stars for that. But we CAN teach our...

I think that this is a common enough concern, and I agree with it. In all things moderation. My son was labeled a picky eater early. My MIL would bring out this, and then then that and then the other until meal time was a miserable experience. I think extremes of either type are a bad idea...

Especially given that I do often choose food that is good for me over what I would prefer to eat.

I guess I don't understand what the benefit or positive argument is for catering to food "likes". We require our kids to clean their rooms. They don't like that. We require them to learn things. They don't always like that. Why is it important to make sure that they LIKE the food that they eat...

Certainly not! You have every right to your opinion. And clearly you are doing what you think is right. That I disagree is a total non-issue. And likewise to you. The ability to share these thoughts is invaluable to me.

I guess I am nuts. I just don't see liking the food you eat as all that important. And I don't see going without as that big of a deal. I hate coleslaw too.

My SIL will say "good job" when they finish their plate. When obesity is epidemic, why is eating a "good job"? I actually had a fight with my FIL about this many years ago, I try really hard not to get in between my son (the would be picky eater) and my in-laws. But god eating at their house was...

Oh yah. I certainly don't advocate eating things to which you are allergic or intolerant! Pretty sure my son is not intolerant to all fruits and veggies though! That is what life is like during the day. Both kids, though young, are very capable in the kitchen. All they need is supervision not...

Why is that? My eldest is 10. He cooks better than most adults as does his 7yo sister! My tone irritates you for some reason. Actually I had nothing to do with the conversation until one woman basically lambasted another for literally having no money to buy her child peanut butter. But there it...

Well I guess you don't have the right to be ok or not ok with someone else' parenting. We obviously aren't going to agree. Cheers.

Once tried, as she did I think letting it go is the better option.
