I put Debralyn in the booster at like 2 1/2, about the same time maybe a little earlier she was able to use utensils...and honestly she still uses sippy cups once in a while (or a cup with a lid anyways) but was able to drink from a real cup by 3

I got rid of sippy cups as soon as I could for the sake of their teeth. A cup with a lid and a straw is better then a sippy.
Lisa, if your baby is only a year old I think he's still too young for the table. That's just my opinion. You get into squirming around at the dinner table, then you have to worry they are going to choke......I'd keep him in the high chair for a bit. If he can hold a cup then let him go for it. Try a little tiny cup...it should be fun to watch..hahaha

Thanks. It's just that I went to pick him up from the babysitter's house the other day and he was sitting at the big table with the other kids eating off a plate. That got me thinking that maybe I'm babying him too much.

do you ditch the high chair for a booster seat? I had a Fisher Price Space Saver. High chair that sits on a regualr chair. so she is in teh same booster now that was her high chair when she was an infant. She ate with her tray though till she was about 18 months old or so then we went to the table. Before then is just too messy. lol

do children start using utensils at the table? Nichole started using them around a year, but even at 2, she still will sometimes hold her spoon in one hand and pick her food up place it on the spoon then eat it.

should I get rid of the sippy cups? depends on the type of sippy cup you use. We do straws mostly (take and toss Mickey actually lol) and then we have the travel cup for when we leave the house.
This is the one we have, and I love it. She has been using it since she was a year old regardless that it says 2 and up .
