Lax law enforcement in a few communities is a very poor excuse for not improving legislation.
"Improved legislation" doesn't fix lax law enforcement.

What happened here is that he committed the crime of (what would in my state be) third degree assault. Instead of arresting him for it, charging him, and then setting bail requirements that would have separated him from weapons until his trial... they blew it off.

It's not that they had their hands tied with the Second Amendment. It's that they didn't take this guy seriously. "Innocent until proven guilty" doesn't mean a suspect gets to do whatever he likes until his trial rolls around.

I'm too tired for a big response.

Gotta say I am with AK on this. If I have a drink with my gun, hit my wife, commit an assault ect. They should remove my permit and guns. A gun with out a permit is now a felony. And if the people who live around me notice me with a gun and report it. The police have reasonable suspension to come into the house remove it and charge me.

It makes no sense to me to make more laws when no one is enforcing the fundamental one's on the book's.

Last week I watched Cspan's coverage of the senate committee on gun control for three hours ( Yea I have no life). If it were a debate clearly the pro gun side would have walked away with the debate. Some professor (of gun laws and crime?) was the "Statistics" guy. And he seemed neutral But when he asked. almost without exception his numbers supported not imposing the new laws. I should have taken notes. Most of the arguments on the gun control side went something like this. Might have: could have: Maybe this: Where the pro gun group would back up almost everything they were saying with real reports and statistics. To be completely honest. I would never have imagined the argument to be as lopsided as it was.

And you would have to be a pretty sneaky crook to drive down my long gravel drive. Get into my locked house. dodge the kid debris on the floor, The dog and stand next to the wifes bed with a gun at her head. (I sleep in the basement) Before I could arm myself.

Even then most people have a large safe for most guns. And a small easy access lock box close to the bed for that kind of protection.
