Does anyone on this forum have children who are helpful around the house?

Kate is very helpful around the house and doesn't need to be asked, her room is very tidy, she hoovers it every week. She also makes cups of tea for me and her dad, she puts her washing in washing machine and fills and empties dishwasher :).

Can't ask for a more helpful daughter eh ♥?

She sounds lovely.

My oldest is helpful when I ask, but we really haven't established household chores. I feel like the youngest are too young, and that it would be unfair to enlist the oldest only.

My eldest can be very helpful. Always when asked and quite frequently on his own.

AK when we run into that disparity among ages wee can rationalize through it with the fact that the eldest didn't have to do as much at that age either. However, it's obviously hugely different to be rationalizing that with a 12 yo as the eldest rather than your situation with a 6.

We tried the household chores route, and it's okay for a period of time. Right now it seems to work better to have a list for the day or the week, instill a sense of everybody does things for the common good of the family. We may go back to assigned chores as we move into summer.
