Liam, my 3yr old son has been reading words and simple books for a few months now - yesterday he pulls "Harry the Dirty Dog" from me and says "I'll read it". I'm thinking to myself this is going to take forever... my jaw was on the carpet by the time he was done. Sure, he mispronounced some words - but he did try to sound them out, and of course it was a bit choppy, but at other points it wasn't. After Harry, he read "I know a Rhino" and most of "Oliva" before getting tired and handing the book back to me.

Liam turns 4 in March.

At one point, sitting there listening to him read, I came to the realization that he is growing up way too fast :( .

Wow, and I thought my daughter was ahead of the game by learning to read when she was four. That's pretty amazing for a three year old to be reading that well. You should encourage it even if you feel like he's growing up too fast. It's something he likes to do and that should always be encouraged.
