Tom, are you "Admin" or is it someone else?

I just noticed that the account was created recently.

I was curious about this as well. It might be better to pm him instead of posting. He hasn't had much time to read posts

I noticed that the site was off line for several hours a couple days ago and there wasn't any headups warning or post upgrade info, so it's just left me puzzled as to who's doing what. :)

The "Admin"'s IP is not Tom's typical IP.

Kaytee, have you been in contact with Tom recently via PM or Email?

I've done some research, it looks someone else is now the owner of the parentingforums.org as of Dec 22nd.

I changed the username from Admin to sanjay since that is my name. I am your proud new owner! I am also married with three daughters (11, 9, and 6) so parenting is something that is very real to me.

I am building a network of forums called CrowdGather and I am very excited to include PF (parentingforums) in that universe. When we launch in February, all members of participating forums will have universal sign-on with their existing usernames on any of the forums in the network. I usually leave existing moderators in place.

Currently Networked (one log-on and username):

http://www.genmay.com
http://www.abxzone.com
http://www.spiceforums.com
http://www.lovethatsound.com
http://www.eternal-allegiance.com
http://www.graffittispot.com
http://www.bigscreentalk.com
http://www.forumbabes.com

Newer forums (pending conversion to vbulletin and/or central log-on):

http://www.alltopix.com
http://www.talkvideogames.com
http://www.democracyforums.com
http://www.theweathervane.info
http://www.metalthrone.com
www.parentingforums.com

I am the founding owner of http://www.genmay.com and the rest of the forums are those that I have purchased over time. Crowdgather's vision is that forums have been treated like the step-children of the internet for too long and there needs to be a way to centralize 'search', 'user-profiles' and 'messaging' across multiple forums. We will also have a facebook plug-in that allows you to get thread-feeds and forum PM's while you are on Facebook.

Feel free to ask me any questions.

Sanjay

Thanks for the info Sanjay. Did Tom sell the domain or did he just not renew it?

Feels very strange to be left out of the loop, not like Tom to do that. It would be nice if Tom, if still around, would chime in and let the mods know what is going on from his point of view.

Tom is very much around and I have been in touch with him regarding the purchase of this forum from a while back. I just messaged him a week ago to see if he would be open to selling and we moved pretty quickly towards a deal. He emailed me yesterday about introducing me to you guys, but when I saw this thread I decided to jump right in myself. I have emailed him a link to this thread so I am sure he will join us soon.

I have talked to Tom a few time over the past few weeks and he did not mention it to me either.

Well welcome aboard Sanjay. I suppose as the new owner all new inquiries and such should be made to you? And is Tom going to have anything to do with the boards now or is he just passing the torch?

Tom is welcome to do what he likes- entirely his decision. I am glad to handle any issues.

sounds good!

The only thing that is popping in my head, is that many posters would love to see an actuall "live" chat type thing, and also a "member only" post requirement type thread, like most have 200 posts to get password kind of thing. Are any of those possible?

I think the biggest concern as of late would be pictures...is there a way to make sure only members can view them?

Thats why a thread where you have to have so many posts would be good. Me personally I don't care who sees my kid, but others are concerned, so they can post them in this type of thread and feel better.

If we do members only, its too east to be a member, but if they have to have so many posts, it's much harder

It is very difficult to do this without completely closing the forums to outside members. At this stage, PF is way too tiny to impose high post-count and registration limitations. Once it is larger we can look at having sub-forums for trusted members, etc...

The best way to deal with pictures is to host them on an account you control so that you can pull them down whenever you like. I post pictures of my wife and kids openly on my forums and have never had an issue, but I understand the concern completely.

The new profile system that we are developing will allow you to hide your gallery from anyone except trusted friends. That way you will have full control of your privacy the way that you do on Facebook. You wouldn't post your pictures in threads, but your friends could click on your profile and see your pics if you permitted it. That is a few months away however...

It is hard to do a thread limitation, but we could have a "Family Album" subforum where you need to have 200 posts to enter? Would that work? I thought we were asking to make the whole forum subject to 200 posts- my mistake.

oh no, just like you said one thread kinda thing. Or even the link thing you mentioned in the other thread would be great! Anything like that. I am the same way as you, I post pics it doesn't bother me but I also see the concern others have.
thanks Sanjay

I think the family ablum subforum would be a great idea...that would solve a lot of the concerns I think. I also have no problem posting family photos publicly but as of late some of our members have expressed concern
