    Bubble Bath?...

    My kids have a similar reaction as Trina's. They are always asking for bubble baths, but it really dries out their skin, so I have to limit to once every few weeks. Not that I really mind ... with three boys, ages 1, 3 and 6 in the tub, bubbles become quite a mess. And when it gets to bathtime...

    First day of school...

    The first day of kindergarten really is a big event. I didn't think it would be, but when it happened, I realized how fast the last five years have gone by since my oldest son was born. It's been two weeks now since Ryan's first day of kindergarten, and he's doing well, other than having...

    Parenting Pet-Peeves...

    I was spanked as a child, and I don't think it's a terrible thing if done in moderation. But I don't spank my kids. They seem to respond well to timeouts and taking away privileges. I might be overdramatic about it, but I think if I did spank them, it would change our relationship. Right now...

    What does everyone think about Baby Borrowers?...

    I think they should make those "doll" practice babies spit up about six ounces on your shoulder right after you change into work clothes -- and about one inch from where you put the burp rag. I think the show sounds interesting, but I couldn't watch it if my baby were involved. It would be...

    Laughing = Permanent emotional scars?...

    I feel the same way, but it can be really awkward when my son goes into a mini tantrum because he can't hit the elevator button. Then again, awkward moments are pretty much a part of life as a parent.

    Laughing = Permanent emotional scars?...

    Usually if I laugh --good-naturedly -- at my boys when something happens to them, I can pull them out of a cry. Not always, but I'll take any strategy that works most of the time. I think it works because it makes them less self-conscious about falling down, messing up, etc. I know public...

    Thanks to everyone. And Cthru -- That's a great photo as your avatar. I'm working on a story right now about gas prices, so that's a common response from people. The avg. unleaded gas price in Texas on Feb. 1 of 2007 was $2.06. (And as I recall, we all thought that was really high).

    Sunburn?!?!...

    I don't think your wrong to get upset. I have very fair skin and I know what a day of sun exposure can do. I grew up in Arizona, swimming all the time, and sunblocks just weren't very good back then. I also don't think my parents took it very seriously. They figured, well, it's a burn, it will...

    At least for now, your daughter shouldn't have any problems with tornadoes. No tornado threat in the five-day forecast, either. Of course, the five-day forecast is pretty much a shot in the dark in most parts of Texas.

    If all the tornadoes agree to jump over my house, I'm cool with that. I should point out that my kids, at least the 5-year-old and 2-year-old, thought that it was incredibly fun to hang out in the bathroom for 20 minutes while the tornado threat was close.

    Yep, I'm a Texan -- actually right by you in Plano/Frisco. (City is Plano, but in the Frisco school district ... very confusing). My wife and I have been here nine years. We're both from Phoenix, AZ area originally. We love it, but even after nine years, we're still getting used to the whole...

    Well, I'm a writer for The Dallas Morning News, and I've always liked writing. Putting it on my own blog allows me to keep connected with family members and friends, and also with DMN readers who've gotten to know me over the years and are probably going through some of the same things. I also...

    I just found this Parenting Forum today, and that's only because I haven't been looking. If you're looking for Parenting Forums, it's hard to miss one called ParentingForums.org. But now that my youngest son is 4 months old -- my older boys are 5 and almost 3 -- I thought I might sign up for a...

    Ugh, some people are just wrong....

    Just looking at this forum for the first time today and saw that tagline above: <I><SIZE size="125"><FONT font="Century Gothic">The quickest way for a parent to get a child's attention is to sit down and look comfortable. ~Lane Olinghouse</SIZE></I> So true.
