Allergy Shots...

I'm seeing the Allergist on Wed because Lita wants a cat and I'm terribly allergic to them.
The things we do for our loves.

Of course I'll be asking the doctor all of my questions, but I'm wondering if anyone here has had them.

How often do you have to get them?
How soon do they work?
How well do they work?
Any icky side effects?
How much did they run you?
I had heard something about allergy drops your can put under your tongue. Did the US ever get around to approving them? Needles don't bother me, but anything I can do at home is good.

I don't know anything about them, but I did just see a news thing about a drop that goes under the tongue that is as effective as the shot. It might be in the works still though.

My oldest son had allergy shots when he was younger because he was allergic to grass.

He had them every 2 weeks for about 2 years when he was 8 and 9. They did work pretty well, his allergy was really bad before the shots and he is now only mildly allergic.

This might be different than what you would get for a cat allergy, but his shots started to work gradually about 3-4 months. He didn't have any side effects and it was covered by our insurance.

Both my kids have allergies and asthma and see an Allergy/Asthma specialist. He has never advised allergy shots.

DS is allergic to cats, but we have two. DS takes Claritin and has a HEPA air cleaner in his room. The cats are not allowed in there and he tries not to pet them too much. His cat allergy is manageable, but my sister and my niece can't be around cats at all. They've tried everything, but nothing helps. I guess it really depends on how sensitive your cat allergy is. Some people can manage it by taking precautions, while others can't.

I had to have shots three times a week and was on prescription benedryl and dimetap when I was young.

The worse thing I remember about the shot was that my step mom gave them to me and would sometimes get a blunt needle out to the bulk needles she bought.

I don't really remember any side effects then, but these days benedryl will knock me on my butt.

Yeah, that's why I'm going the shot route. If Claritin or Zytec or something worked for me that would be awesome. But Benedryl is the only one that works and it makes me a stoned idiot.

Have you looked into Allergy clearing or Applied Kinesiology?
I did the shot route and here is what they might not tell you. You can have a reaction to the shot. You can go into anaphylactic shock. You can die if they do not have the proper medical equipment there. BTDT. I now have memory problems because I flatlined. Lack of oxygen to the brain because of one stupid shot that was supposed to help me overcome my allergies. Oh and it wasn't the first shot either, it was about the 15th shot I had a reaction to, so according to them they would have to go back down to the dosage I did not have a reaction to. That is when I went into anaphylactic shock and was basically dead on the table for about 5 minutes.

I would go with the less invasive allergy clearing. It worked for me and other people I know. It is usually performed by a chiropractor. They test you to find out whatever you are allergic to, it may take a couple of sessions, then you are done with that allergen.

My mom went into anaphylactic shock from some type of allergy shot. Freaky. I've reeeaaally been thinking about allergy shots myself though, because I'm severely allergic to several things. I get stuffy nose, sneezing, coughing, weezing, asthma attacks, itchy eyes, and worst of all hives. And nothing helps. It comes and goes, that's the only way I deal with it. I don't know if you've heard of allergies being related to shadows under the eyes, but I have terrible looking shadows under mine at all times. Benedryl puts me to sleep for like half a day at least, but that tends to help. Among perscription meds and stuff Allegra 180 always helped the best, but not completely. The other stuff doesn't do much.That's why I think about shots sometimes. I just want to feel normal. @__@

The root cause for allergies to furred animals is the Tuberculosis Genetic Miasm as per Clarke's Materia Medica and can be cured, as opposed to suppressed with drugs on the homeopathic principle like cures like. Yes, a dropper can be provided for use at home as opposed to suffering shots which are only suppressive. If you stop the shots, the underlying cause is still there, so nothing was really solved.

I may be alone in this but what did you just say? I am very openminded to alternative meds but you went right over my head with that one. I was treated by my chriopractor for Graves disease with much success.
