Anyone see this one:

Video - Breaking News Videos from CNN.com

short story, the Dad who had gotten legal custody at one point, then had it revoked, convinced police that he did have custody by showing the old court documents and essentially kidnapped the kid from the school bus.

I understand it's a confusing situation, but why did the cops just ignore the kid. Surely they could have said, "Okay, let's take a moment, go down the to police station, get children services and involved and see what's going on." Is it a matter of responding because the guy has money? Was he just that convincing in his con that he not only legally, but ethically should have the child?

I don't see how they could just ignore him

if this is the same one i think it is then its baffling how it could happen. looks to me like the police would have done a little more of an investigation and detained both dad and son to make sure they were doing the right thing before letting dear old dad take the kid off the bus.
