short story, the Dad who had gotten legal custody at one point, then had it revoked, convinced police that he did have custody by showing the old court documents and essentially kidnapped the kid from the school bus.
I understand it's a confusing situation, but why did the cops just ignore the kid. Surely they could have said, "Okay, let's take a moment, go down the to police station, get children services and involved and see what's going on." Is it a matter of responding because the guy has money? Was he just that convincing in his con that he not only legally, but ethically should have the child?
