Two young children were killed Monday in an 18-wheeler crash on Highway 10 near Luling. </SIZE>[/FONT]

<SIZE size="125">According to DPS officials, the driver of the 18-wheeler, which was loaded with frozen chickens, lost control, and then jack-knifed and overturned the truck around 4 a.m. The driver, Shane Crochet of Bryan, Texas, was not injured. </SIZE>
<SIZE size="125"></SIZE>
<SIZE size="125">A car then hit the 18-wheeler after it had already overturned. </SIZE>
<SIZE size="125"></SIZE>
<SIZE size="125">A two-year-old, Brieonna Pope, and a 5-day-old, Niana Pope, died at the scene. Their mother and three others were airlifted to Brackenridge Hospital. DPS officials said neither child was riding in a safety seat; in fact, the infant was riding in the front seat passenger's lap. </SIZE>
<SIZE size="125"></SIZE>
<SIZE size="125">Another child -- a one-year-old -- was in a child safety seat. There was no word on the child's condition. There was also a 14-year-old in the car who suffered minor seatbelt injuries. She was listed in good condition. DPS officials say the children's mother, Aaron West, 26, was driving. She was listed in fair condition. Tashina Johnson, 25, who was also in the car, was also listed in fair condition. </SIZE>
<SIZE size="125"></SIZE>
<SIZE size="125">Investigators had initially said that fog may have played a role, but have since said it was not a factor. </SIZE>
<SIZE size="125"></SIZE>
<SIZE size="125">It's unknown whether charges will be filed. Investigators say they will reconstruct the accident to assist in their investigation. </SIZE>
