I think how you raise an animal does play a part. I think that in 17 years I've received dog bite calls from just about every kind of dog there is. Poodle, basset hound, jack Russell, etc. Two years ago my daughter was bit my a malamute, (unprovoked). All dogs have the potential to bite.

My oldest daughter has a pit. He is goofy and loving and a bit of a baby.

However, the worst dog calls we have received at work have been from pits. One ate the toes of an infant off here in our county, one mauled to death a 3 year old boy. The second one, the dog broke through the screen door to reach the child in the child's own home. It wasn't their animal. 2 other pits were shot due to trying to attack their owners. So.. I don't know if they are more prone.. but they defiantly cause a greater concern when they do.
