 The U.S. education system is in a MAJOR crisis. Has anyone checked the alarming drop-out rate lately. 1 out of 4 and for minorities it is 1 out 3 that dropout. This has alarming effects to our society and economy. Because these students didn't finish high school, their job outlook is bleak. Many will have to go on the govt payroll (welfare, food stamps, etc...) while others will just go from meaningless job to meaningless job. Our nation's dropouts buy houses and cars that they can't afford and they become quickly in debt way over their heads. This leads to foreclosures, repossessions and bankruptcy.

All of this is alarming but yet the government wants to keep putting band aids on a would needing 50 stitches. They throw little amounts of money toward the school and in essence just say, "y'all do a good job now and we will measure each school and child with our own instrument (NCLB).

Does anyone care that our students are dropping out? Has anyone thought about the fact that a student has to dumb down when entering the schools of today and of yesterday. The government has implemented curriculum changes by adding more applied math and science while doing away with Consumer Math, Home-Ec, woodworking, etc...

This curriculum focuses on the upper third of our children, the children going to college. But 2/3's are not going anywhere except to work. These students become disenchanted and question why bother going to school.

The curriculum needs an overhaul. The way education is delivered should be reviewed and restructured to fit today's society. We must find ways to re-engage out students. We MUST put a halt to drop outs. What do you think?
