Why is it everytime I try to let a family know the dangers of the internet I get ignored, looked down on and no longer friends in their eyes? Its ridiculous to think you are trying to help and then they kill the messenger? Whats wrong with these parents today?

Could it be, perhaps HOW you deliver the message? You didn't give an example, so we'd be a little hard pressed to speculate on why.

no matter what way I tell them, they all turn a blind eye. Instead of "hey thanks for bringing that to our attention" its, "Mind your own business" and this is about a 14 yo girl that is posting pics online in public forums for anyone to copy.

well, in the end they're right, you can't fix them if they don't want to be fixed, but it seems that you couldn't live withyouself if you simply ignored the danger, so, you've done the right thing, and it seems you need to put it behind you.

You have no idea how good that made me feel. Just to have a sensible person that understands it just made my week.

Guess what, so today i find out the parents 14 yo daughter is using this tumblr acount which is publicly viewable by the world and so i look over the site and she has pictures of herself (face showing too) in bikini pictures and such. I guess people can go on there and just add eachothers pics to there own site that they create.

So i click.on a couple of the visitors that have been to her site and it takes me to the visitors sites that are loaded with porn and the girl is in the list of pics. Mind you she's in a bikini but now her pic is being shared in a porn picture site. I let the parents know and they said. All her friends are doing it and they cant lock her up and throw away the key.

I couldnt believe it. These people are misiing some screws...

Messenger, who are you to these parents? Why are you monitoring their childrens internet use? In what situation are you telling them about this?

yes, I'd be interested in your relatioship to them as well...

I do agree with the parents that they can't just shut her down, it's naive to think they can control it, but it certainly is a "teachable moment" for them, about the dangers of putting oneself out there so boldly and apparently recklessly.

My cousins child also post some pretty inappropriate things on her face book. ( She's on mine so I see it) I did go to him out of concern and tell him I was worried. He's not a computer user, so I offered to show him a thing or two if he'd like. He did not take me up on the offer.

She is not my child. I can't do anything more than that and can't take offense. I tried. It's done. Sometimes Messenger.. you have to just let it go and walk away.
