Mods and Admin... a suggestion?...

I guess this is the right place for this..

We've gotten an overwhelming amount of spam and porn on the site lately. On one of the forums I'm on..you are required to make an introduction post that is approved before you can post in other parts of the forum. I know this would put a little more work on the mods, but it seems like it would cut down the spammers drastically. Is this even possible?

yea, i get that......just sucks that all these things are up on here right now...luke came by and was like whats that???? i was mortified! BEcause this place isn't supposed to have this kind of stuff on it.....i closed it immediately

yea for sure. I mean its one thing a bit of spam,....ok whatever, but when its porn.....for some, there is a time and a place for it, and this is neither.

but its all the same. some one, some mod. should be here on weekends or they should take turns being here then...that's when the spammers hit mostly cause they think rightly that no one will be here to kick em out and ban em. :( as has been seen today evidently.

Hey guys... Sorry, I was out all day at church then shopping with my family. It's hard for someone to be here ALL of the time as we have lives outside of PF too...but we do the best we can. I'm going to send an email up the chain and see if something can be done about the amounts of spam and porn that we're getting. I'll update you when I have more info. Until then, keep reporting.

OK all, I emailed Crowdgather. I'm awaiting a response from them and will let you know. Normally, either Fallon are online pretty constantly. It just so happened that she and I were both gone all day today...absolute coincidence. Believe me, when I came home and had 5 PM's and saw the amount of reported posts, I about fell over dead. Thank you all for the communication and keep up the good work.

I think that we should cut the mods some slack. There's only 2 of them and I'm pretty sure they work for free. They have lives too.

Maybe we should all chip in and get them Blackberries so they can get PM's all the time.

Yeah guys, it sucks and I think the system should be modified to prevent spammers from getting in. I know there are higher measures they could take. I don't expect the mods to always get to everything right away though, if you guys think about it these people volunteer to mod. They don't get paid, they're just spending thier valuable internet time being nice, responsible people on a random parenting thread. I'm thankful we have the protection and moderation that we do, really. Cause they do have lives, and they don't get paid to do this. They're just being nice. I wish there were more security measures taken on the site itself though, the porn and spamming has been overwhelming lately. But it's there on every forum, so you know. Us being on a parenting forum doesn't make us special. :p

I agree...lets cut the mods some slack. They do volunteer to do this and I do expect that they all have lives and children to deal with too.

So..maybe a new moderator or two could help the problem then? Maybe we should nominate a few people and take a vote or something?

IMO its not that big a deal. It happens everywere and I think the mods here knock that kinda stuff out pretty quickly. Most of those type of things you can tell in the title what it is. Its just that "car wreck" syndrome where you just gotta look. :eek:

I wouldnt beat myself up about it DAdu.
