I took Jordyn to the doctor again today. She has an ear infection still. She's been on 6 different antibiotics and now the stronger they are the worse the side effects are. We go to an Ear Nose and Throat Specialist on Wednesday and I'm freaking out. I wanted to cry right when she suggested it. I'm not 100% for sure that I want to get tubes put in her ears but the poor little thing has to be miserable.

If anyone has any information or personal experience I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!!

Aaron and Lily had tubes put in and it was the best thing I could have done. Aaron still gets ear infections sometimes but Lily hasn't had one since the tubes. It is difficult to get used to at first because NO water can get in the ears, we used ear plugs for bath and running through the sprinkler.

It is scary but it is totally worth it.

Good Luck!

Right here. Right now.
A singer I worked with years ago has tubes...the only reason we knew, was that she had to leave rehearsal one time as the tubes needed some sorf of adjustment, in speaking with her further, she truly believed the tubes were a good thing. She had them from childhood, and was 26 when I worked with her.

Delaney got tubes in and adnoids removed about 4 months ago and hasn't had an ear infection since then. The whole experience is very short...literally about 15 minutes. It is very scary though when they wake up from the anesthisia (sp?). Be prepared to be a nervous mom during the procedure, but your child will be much more happy when they're not sick nearly as much.

Keep in mind that they'll be able to hear the world in a whole new way! Keep the loud music down, and consider ear plugs for baths/showers.

Good luck!

I have no personal experience in this. I do strongly believe that many children HAD tubes put in when it was not needed. however now they typically do not recomend them unless it is really needed

I'm not sure what Music-dad's singer friend had going on...it may have been something slightly different when she had her's put in a number of years ago. Now, tubes actually will fall out 1 - 2 years after having them put in. They're tiny, so you'll probably never even know that they fell out.

I can't really say, maybe she meant she needed new ones put in, she did say she has had tubes since childhood, other than that...I don't know much about them.

I'm REALLY nervous about her being put out. That's my #1 concern right now. She's having more side effects than benefits from the antibiotics now. We went to the doctor last Monday and she had an ear infection. We went back today and it's unchanged. In fact she an infection in both ears now.

Our appointment is Wednesday with the Ear Nose and Throat Specialist. I'm nervous.

I'm not trying to freak you out, just being honest....it's nerve-wracking knowing that your child is being put under. Fortunately, it doesn't last long. Be strong, and know that you're doing what's in her best interest. The benefits of having it done are wonderful...she'll be much happier, I promise!

The only thing I've seen is that Delaney's ears are sensitive to water...remember, there's incisions in there, so there will be a bit of MILD pain for a few days. We started using ear plugs in her bath, and that helped immensely. Other than that, there's no disadvantages that I've seen.

Okay dumb questions...

Do you use just regular ear plugs or did they give you some?

Can she go swimming?

How much pain was she in and how did it last?

Did they give you anything to give her for the pain?

How old was she when they were put in?

I think that's it for now. :D

No such thing as dumb questions...I asked all the same ones at the ENT.

1. I use the regular ear plugs, but they have some children's one's online. I use the orange ones and bought them at CVS.

2. She can swim in pools and the ocean with no plugs. I'm not sure what's special about the ocean, maybe the salt content. In lakes, she supposed to wear plugs because lakes contain alot of bacteria.

3. Only a little irritating pain, lasted only a day.

4. We just gave her Tylenol every 4 hours.

5. She was 3 1/2.

6....Feel free to ask anything! :)

sometimes tubes do not fall out, they can become infected as well. Sorry this is not to scare you but there are some slight risks, however the benefit usually out weighs the risk of them

I'm not sure if we have covered this somewhere else or not and I dont remember how old your child is. What are you feeding? When I switched to cow milk from formula Bubba had three ear infections back to back. My chriopractor suggested rice or almond milk. I switched and we have never had another ear problem.

Tubes are WONDERFUL. Oliver had them put in at 15 months. He had ear infections every month. He hasn't had one since.

good point!!!! Many kids have reoccuring ear infections when they are on milk. As soon as milk is out, so are the ear infections. Worth a shot while you are waiting on the doc appointment
