My best advice, take it to a reptile shop and ask!

My dh got me a turtle he found at a golf course. SO i took him to the reptile store and they told me he was a baby snapper!

What does a painted turtle look like?

Here is the top. Will he eat regular turtle food?

Or your best bet would be to put him back, because you need to have a tank, water (the right amount of water too) diet, lighting etc.
I had filter for mine as well (they were aquatic)

exactly......its not like one of the situations where you get a turtle and put him some where. There are a million things you need to keep him happy.

I ended up getting rid of mine because of the arrival of my daughter...

Reptiles such as turtles, snakes and lizards are becoming increasingly popu-lar as pets, but they harbor Salmonella bacteria that can make life miserable for humans. The bacteria cause salmonellosis, an infection of the human intestinal tract that usually manifests itself as diarrhea, abdominal cramps, fever and sometimes vomiting. In rare cases, it can be life- threatening.
